The heating mat rests between the floor insulation and the inside steel floor. The internal thermostat cycles on and off to maintain a surface temperature of 104 degrees F. We recommend the use of the Thermo Cube to conserve electricity. There is no danger of fire when placing bedding material on top of the steel floor. The power cord measures five feet in length. The cord is chew resistant but it is not chew proof.
